Sukh Initiative was a six-year (2013-2019) multi-donor funded Family Planning (FP) and reproductive health project of Aman Health Care Services, implemented through a consortium of local and international organizations, in collaboration with provincial government departments, by a Program Management Unit (PMU). This report covers the period from November 2013 through September 2019 featuring the key achievements of different solution levers of the Sukh Initiative under its catchment area.
Door to Door services were extended to a population of 1 million by Sukh Community Health Workers (CHW) covering 0.8 million population and government Lady Health Workers (LHW) covering 0.2 million.
- 189 CHWs reached a population of 805,996 including 140,309 Married Women of Reproductive Age (MWRA).
- 27,877 potential FP clients referred and 61% (17,049) availed services
including postpartum and post-abortion. - 73,813 MWRAs are using modern contraceptive, with addition of 9,894 new
users. - Modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (MCPR) increased to 53%.
- 200 LHWs reached a population of 202,031 with 14,866 users of modern
contraceptives. - 9,110 clients were referred to public and private health care facilities.
- 4,112 referred clients adopted FP methods of choice.
- First dose of injection was provided to 2,030 new clients.
- MCPR increased 11% (41 to 52%)
The youth component under Sukh Initiative integrated Life Skill Based Education program in 30 schools and 2 vocational training centers enabling more than 5000 young people to receive quality SRHR information. A Youth Friendly Space was setup where 521 youth attended the sessions (409 boys and 112 girls).
Through Sukh call center 60,067 MWRAs, husbands, young boys and girls were registered and provided follow-up services to address the myths, misconceptions, side effect about MNCH and FP topics. 66,471 inbound calls were received and 487,304 outbound call attempts were made. Approx 4.5 million text messages were disseminated.
43 public health facilities served 55,453 clients with quality modern contraceptive methods. Two nonfunctional MCH centers were upgraded for PPFP and PAFP service provision and reported 68% clients receiving counseling on PPFP. With comprehensive classroom and hands-on trainings with refreshers, along with provision of required equipment and contraceptives; tremendous improvement in quality of FP services was observed with score going up to 82%
from 32% on an average (Jhpiego SBMR tool).
Since public facilities working hours are till 02:00 PM and the private clinics usually open after 05:00 PM, extended 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM working hours at one Aman Clinic proved to be beneficial for the community. 2,034 FP clients were served at Aman Clinic (In-house services, excluding outreach services). Under outreach services, a total of 10,384 clients were served injections. A total of 1,067 Implants were inserted given during the project life.
Dkt as the private sector service provision partner with 40 clinics under the catchment area reached 13,301 MWRAs of which, 7,463 availed FP method of their choice. Quality standards, in 33 of the 40 clinics scored more than 80%, while the remaining clinics scored around 70%.
