With the goal to beautify the lives of 200,000 women by the year 2020, Amorepacific supported the lives of 441,458 women as of Dec, 2019, achieving 221% of the goal. In 2017, with the vision to enhance women’s health, well-being and economic empowerment, Amorepacific began providing education for early detection for breast and cervical cancer, medical examination and financial support for cancer surgery. So far, for this project, Amorepacific spent a total of 13,006,775 USD to support 436,222 women as of Dec, 2019. Also, for other projects to enhance women’s economic empowerment such as loan support program for business startup by single mothers, mentoring programs for teenagers and scholarship which began in 2017, Amorepacific supported 3,133 women with an expenditure of 8,355,611 USD. 2019 was the year that Amorepacific’s Malaysia corporation joined the 20 by 20 Commitment, following suit after China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. ‘Makeup your life’ is Amorepacific’s global CSR campaign and it was created with the vision to improve the life quality of female cancer patients so as to help the government to tackle social problems. In particular, the skincare and makeup classes of ‘makeup your life’ campaign are designed exclusively for female cancer patients, customized to their specific needs to help them overcome metal distress during cancer treatment process. Since the government’s ‘integrated cancer survivors support project’ does not provide such physical appearance management classes for cancer patients, the social contributions made by the ‘makeup your life’ campaign hold great significance.
Through this campaign, the 5-year relative survival rate increased by 16.5% compared to the period from 2001 to 2005 however interestingly, ASEAN countries showed a relatively low ratio of the patients who returned to the ordinary social life in comparison to the North America and 7 European countries. Due to this, the amount of social loss increased 7 times for the past 15 years, totaling an estimated amount of 642 billion KRW (2014). Calculated by GDP standard, the social loss of 0.02% in 1999 increased to 0.04% in 2014, indicating that taking care of cancer patients is an important social responsibility (Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors in the Asia-Pacific Workforce, Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU). In response to these needs, the Korean government established the National Cancer Center and, currently implementing the 4th integrated cancer management project under the 2020 National Cancer Management Master Plan. Since the number of cancer survivors is increasing every year, Amorepacific’s makeup your life campaign will also be in greater demand. Currently, the scale of makeup your life campaign programs in overseas is small but, each overseas corporation of Amorepacific is adequately implementing programs tailored to local needs in order to preemptively deal with the possible social issues. Since there is no other corporation or non-profit organization implementing campaigns similar to ‘makeup your life’ in ASEAN region, Amorepacific’s makeup your life campaign – which are being carried out in countries where overseas corporation offices are located - can make a significant social contribution for the local customers and can expand more within the country. Based on the performance results of 20 by 20 Commitment, Amorepacific will raise the goal for 2025 and develop a new commitment for mid and long-term.
