In 2015, the Gates Foundation announced that it will commit an additional 25% (~$120 million) over the next three years to help accelerate progress towards our shared FP2020 goal. This “accelerator funding” was added to scale proven solutions in four areas we feel have real potential to accelerate progress:
- Increasing the quality of services women receive – A focus on the private sector
- Meeting the family planning needs of the urban poor
- Expanding advocacy efforts to the subnational level in select countries
- Understanding and meeting the family planning needs of adolescents
The Gates Foundation committed an additional $375 million over the next four years, marking a 60% increase in our family planning funding. These new resources will build upon existing programming and respond to the needs and aspirations of young people.
