  • Work in partnership with a broad spectrum of development partners and using the Midwifery Services Framework, gap analyses and other tools and guidelines to provide technical assistance to midwives associations, national governments and their stakeholders so they can optimize accessible quality midwifery care for all women of reproductive age, during ICM’s Strategic Directions 2014--2017 and 2017-‐2020.

During the 2015-2020 period ICM worked in partnership with global, regional and national leaders, midwives and women towards achieving access to quality midwifery care for childbearing women and their babies everywhere. This includes regional meetings, bringing evidence-based education and practice, and support for professional associations to all regions of the world. Further, the development and implementation of the midwifery services framework in 6 countries, building the capacity of midwives' associations to advocate for midwives and women in our six regions, strengthening interprofessional relationships especially with Obgyns and Nurses at global, regional and national level. ICM has also strengthened the quality of midwifery education by capacity building of teachers to provide competency based education, and the capacity of over 50,000 midwives and others with midwifery skills to provide emergency obstetric care through the 50,000 Happy Birthdays Project. Through ICM's 2017-2020 strategy we have committed to improving quality, equity and leadership. The young midwifery leaders programme is ongoing, highlighting the importance of leadership development, advocacy and voice for young midwives. Ongoing development of e.g. guidelines, toolkits, e-Learning modules are valuable resources that are available to midwives and others that have contributed towards achievement of our commitment.
