ISGlobal, Barcelona Institute for Global Health

ISGlobal, the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, commits to continue to work closely with other partners in the PMNCH family and beyond, to help develop and promote a multidisciplinary and coordinated global research agenda in the context of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health internationally. This work will help to develop a common strategy for indicators and benchmarks for donors and governments to monitor progress, develop a common strategy to inform and allocate resources more effectively and equitably, promote research in neglected RMNCAH areas and its translation into useful information for discussion with policy makers to develop tools that are specific to improve women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health status.

ISGlobal additionally commits up to $10 million until December 2020 towards researching malaria and HIV in connection with RMNCAH, with a focus on generating evidence on interactions between antiretroviral (ARVs) and anti-malarial drugs in order to provide therapeutic options to highly vulnerable populations (i.e. HIV positive women and children in malaria endemic areas), as well as evaluating new delivery channels that may, in the future, help upgrade the coverage and uptake of proven, highly efficacious, and cost-effective interventions (i.e. IPTp) to prevent malaria in pregnancy and newborns.

ISGlobal commits to strengthen the capacity of health professionals and researchers, with a focus on RMNCH, through the provision of high quality training and technical assistance globally. ISGlobal will continue to provide master degrees, short courses and workshops to global health professionals and researchers with emphasis in creating capacity in LMICs.
